Guidelines for Safe Traveling

When you're heading out of town, you'll want to make sure
that you're ready for any situation that might arise. This
could include disease, crime, or loss.
When planning to go out of the country, find out if there
are immunizations that are required to enter that country.
You will get this information from the country's health
department. Make sure you take all the mandatory
requirements as well as the optional recommendations of the
department seriously. Ask your doctor to help you take these
immunizations well in time, because some of them might have
side effects.
Also, find out more about the health policy from your health
insurance company. In some cases you may have to pay for
additional coverage for foreign travel. It is better to know
all this in advance rather than get caught unawares
afterwards. Also, you need to be sure that you are covered
no matter what happens.
When it comes to health abroad, it is best to keep away
from tap water when you're abroad like most people do. For
the same reason, if you are served with tepid meals, ask
that they heated through thoroughly. And try not to go for
the raw or semi-raw foods, or those not cooked a hundred per
cent for fear they might contain bacteria?including
guacamole and salsa dips, unless of course they are fresh,
made when you order them.
Remember to carry some anti diarrhea drugs in case you get
food poisoning. And if you do get it, drink lots of water
and other fluid to re-hydrate yourself. Don't take chances
if your symptoms persist -- do see a doctor, or visit the
local hospital for treatment.
In terms of not making yourself a target for crime, you want
to carry as little money as possible and not make a display
of the wealth that you do carry. Traveling is not an excuse
to bring all of your expensive clothing and jewelry to wear.
You want to remain low key and not draw attention to
anything that might look tempting to a thief.
You might want to think of bringing traveler's checks
instead of large amounts of checks. These are much safer as
they require two signatures as well as a presentation of
identification to cash and use. If they are stolen, they
are easily replaced with a phone call to the original
dispenser.
To safeguard against loss, you should ensure that your
insurance policies cover your valuables. If not, you should
think of purchasing a little policy for your trip. This can
cover your valuables including the car that you drive or
souvenirs that you buy.
Traveling abroad is easy when you plan things out. That way,
it is as safe as any place within your locale.
