Ever since paintballing has caught the attention of people,
the popularity of air guns has increased phenomenally. Now
you have many types of air guns on the market. That is the
reason why you should be sure which air gun would be most
appropriate for you when you go to buy one.
The mechanism that the air guns use is compressed air or
other types of gases needed to propel the pellets, bb's, and
other such ammunitions. The high-powered guns are used
chiefly for military and hunting purposes but most of the
air guns are low-powered, because of the safety reasons. For
events such as the Olympic sharpshooting, high-powered air
guns are used. The high-powered guns enjoy the benefit of
being extremely accurate, but they might not be the best
suited for normal air-gun activities.
The most common types of air guns are the multi-stroke air
guns, also called pump-up air guns. These air guns need
several 'pumps' to get the needed internal pressure to
propel the pellet from the barrel of the air gun. Pump-up
air guns are compact and have reasonable amount of recoil.
They are also lightweight and have moderate power. However,
these pump-up air guns take too much time and effort to get
a shot off in time to hit your quarry. They are also known
for limited accuracy. So a multi-stroke air gun may not be
for you if you are looking for an air gun with high
accuracy.
The single-stroke air guns offer a high degree of accuracy.
These guns need a single pump to get the proper amount of
air. These guns enjoy more consistency than the pump-up
variety and they don't suffer from the recoiling problem as
well. The disadvantage these guns have is that they don't
provide a lot of power, making them unsuitable for hunting
purposes. However the high accuracy makes them a winner
despite the lack of power.
There is also an option of purchsing pre-charged air guns,
which have high accuracy and high power. The pre-charged air
guns need a minimal effort to get the air as they are
derived from the scuba tank. The scuba tanks are equipped
with a special hose having a pressure gauge in order to
supply the compressed air. The pre-charged air guns are more
suited for hunting purposes as some of them yield multiple
shots. Thus, a combination of all these factors make the
pre-charged air gun the perfect choice for a host of air gun
activities. However, even these guns suffer a little from
the problem of recoiling.
